From Thanon Phattanakarn, turn right at the Phattanakarn Village, Then bike to the next destination, Sam Por Kong Foundation. A replica of Luang Pho To, the much-respected Buddha statue in Wat Phanunchoeng in Ayutthaya, is enshrined here. Sam Por Kong is a Chinese word meaning the "Triple Gem" In 1949, the Chinese descendants installed the incense kettle from Wat Phanunchoeng in the small wooden shrine. In 1971 a new vihara was erected together with the statue of Luang Pho To. |
![]() Kuan Im statue beside the vihara was erected in 1996, on the auspicious occasion of the Golden Jubilee of H.M. the King's Accession to the Throne. The statue is 19 meters high, making It among the highest Kuan Im statues in Thailand. Statues of a girl and a boy named "Long Ni" and "Chung Chai Kong Jue" on bouth sides of Kuan Im reflect their supporting roles in helping human beings and animals. This place is the center of faith for the Chinese descendants in Thung Song and nearby districts. |
Then ride on Highway 403, before turning left to Thung Song town. Stop over at Suan Luang Ror Kao, the gateway to Thung Song town. Important roads and railways crisscross at this Park. At the center of the Park is enshrined the statue of King Rama V, who chose this land to be railway junction and a town. |

From the front of the park, turn left for about 300 meters, then trun right again to pass Satree Thung Song School. This formerly girl-only school has recently recruited both girls and boys. At Chai Chumphon intersection turn left again to pass Thung Song Hospital. Ride on Thanon Ratch Boriphan to a small circle before reaching Talod Cave. The distance from Sirindhorm Botanical Garden to the cave is about 8.4 kilometers. |
![]() Talod Cave is located by Foot of Khao Wat Khok Moh (or Khao Chai Chumpol). Park and lock your bicycle in the parking lot. In front of the cave can be found the statues of various monks highly venerated by the southerners, including Pho Than Klai Vachasith of Wat That Noi, Luang Pu Tuad of Wat Chang Hai, and Luang Pu Kiew of Wat Rong Bon, etc. A large stone lion is placed right at the middle of cave entrance. Visitors can walk through Talod cave from one end to the other. The reclining, southward headed, 11-meter long, Buddha statue, together with several smaller Buddha statues, in enshrined inside the cave. Outstanding mural paintings on the Buddha's life by the national artist named Archan Nap Thichinphong can be found on one of the cave walls. |
After visiting the cave, visitors can also enjoy the bird-eye-view of Thung Song from the outlook. The trail upward to this viewpoint starts from a park adjacent to the cave. The 15-20 minute walk leads to a pavilion viewpoint overlooking Thung Song. The scenery has some what narrow angle,since big trees some obstruct the lookout. |
On the way back, take Thanon Ratch Boriphan to the intersection in front of Thung Song Hospital, then turn right and ride along Wat Chai Chumphon and beside Khao Wat Khok Moh. Cross a railway before riding underneath a bridge. This part of the road is laterite and flat, lined with shady rubber plantation. Visitors may have a chance to see rubber farmers at work, such as making rubber sheets from sap, and selling and buying raw rubber sap. Mountain bikers may stop by for a chat with these farners. Ride straight to Sirindhorn Botanical Garden. The distance on the way back in about 4.2 Kilometers. |
Since this route mainly follows congested highway, strict compliance to the traffic rules is highly recommended. Give hand signal every time before turning left or right. Riding in line, rather than riding side by side, is also recommended. Unnecessary overtaking should be avoided. |
