When you try to rename or edit the text on a page tab, you cannot make the change. For example, when you click the page tab or you right-click the page tab, you do not have an option to rename or edit the text. This is because the text contained on the page tab is derived from the title text contained in the page header or from the first line of text on the page.
To change the text in the page tab, edit the title in the page header or the first line of text on the page.
OneNote icon is missing from the notification area
If you removed and reinstalled OneNote on your computer or if you removed the OneNote icon from the notification area at the far right of the taskbar by right-clicking Open new side note and then clicking Remove OneNote Icon, the icon is missing from the notification area. To display the icon in the notification area, follow these steps:
OneNote is listed as a running program in Windows Task Manager
In Windows Task Manager, Microsoft Office OneNote 2003 - Windows taskbar is listed on the Applications tab as a running program. This may occur even if you have not started OneNote and OneNote does not appear to be running.
If the Place OneNote icon in the notification area of the taskbar check box is selected in OneNote, the quick launch functionality of side notes runs in the background. When you start the Microsoft Windows operating system, the quick launch functionality of side notes also starts.
To turn off this quick launch functionality and remove OneNote from the list of running programs in Windows Task Manager, right-click Open new side note in the notification area, and then click Remove OneNote Icon.
To restore the quick launch functionality, follow these steps:
Important The Microsoft Office OneNote 2003 Quick Launch shortcut is required for the quick launch functionality of side notes to work properly. If this shortcut is missing from the Startup folder, run Detect and Repair, as follows:
OneNote files stored on MSN can be edited by multiple computers at the same time
If you open a section that is stored on MSN (on the File menu, click Open, click My Network Places, and then click My Web Sites on MSN), the section is not locked while you are editing it. This means that other users who have permission to edit the file may open this section and make their own changes while you are editing it. Whichever user saves his or her changes back to MSN last will overwrite changes made by the other user. This is a limitation of the MSN servers, and there is no workaround.
Additionally, if you share editing of files with other users on MSN, it is strongly recommended that you grant assistant manager (or higher) permission to these users. When a user who is not at least an assistant manager opens a file, it appears to that user that the file can be edited, but any changes are made on the user's computer only, and the user is not able to edit the original file on the MSN server.
Input Method Editor must be turned off to make files available for editing on multiple computers
If you open a section that is already open on another computer while the Input Method Editor (IME) on the first computer is turned on, the file remains locked and you cannot edit it. To prevent this problem, on the first computer, do one of the following:
Languages of handwriting and of Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition must match
For searching in handwriting and conversion to text to work properly, the language ID for the handwriting you write must match the language ID of the Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition that you are using. The command for converting ink to text is available even if the conversion does not work for your language.
Use the current version of Microsoft IMEs
There may problems with data entry if you use a Microsoft Input Method Editor (IME) version 2000 or earlier or a third-party IME. For best results, use a Microsoft IME version 2002 or later.
Some options are unavailable in the Print dialog box
When you click Print on the File menu, some print range options may not be available. The print range options available in the Print dialog box are determined by the characteristics of the document that you are currently working on, as follows:
Print Preview settings are not saved from one session of OneNote to the next
When you make changes in the Print Preview dialog box, some of the settings will apply to pages in other sections or pages that you print during the same OneNote session. When you quit OneNote, none of your changes to the Print Preview settings are saved.
Changes to the following settings apply to all pages that you print during a single OneNote session:
Note Changes to the following settings apply only to the page currently being printed: Print range, Paper size, Orientation.
Numbering format changes in e-mail or published pages
When you send a page as e-mail or publish a page as a single-file Web page, the numbering format of a numbered list may be changed when the page is viewed in the browser or e-mail message. This problem occurs because OneNote supports only Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) list formats in pages that are published or sent as e-mail. To work around this problem, use only HTML list formats when you create notes to publish or to send by e-mail. OneNote supports the following HTML list formats:
Format of bullets and numbering in handwriting may not render properly in e-mail or published pages
When you send a page as e-mail or publish a page as a single-file Web page, handwriting with bullets or numbering applied may not be formatted correctly. If you know that you will be publishing or sending handwritten content, it's best not to apply bullets or numbering to the handwriting.
HTML table pastes as a single column in OneNote
When you copy a table from a Web page and paste it in OneNote, the table may be formatted as a single column of text. By design, OneNote uses horizontal outline levels to simulate a table structure and does not retain typical HTML table formatting.
Note This problem may occur regardless of the paste option that you select on the menu of the Paste Options button when you paste the table.
To work around this problem and retain table column positioning, paste the table in a Microsoft Office Word 2003 document, and then copy and paste the table from Word to OneNote.
OneNote requires Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 for e-mail features
If you are not using Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 as your e-mail program, there are no commands or buttons for sending e-mail in OneNote. Also, you cannot create an Outlook task in OneNote unless you have Outlook 2003 installed.
If you want to send notes in e-mail to someone who is using a program other than Outlook 2003, you must save the notes and then attach the file to an e-mail message, as follows:
Note If want to send just one page of a section, click Publish on the File menu. You can save the page as either an .mht or an .one file. Only users of OneNote can open .one files, but anyone who has a Web browser can open .mht files.
